What does Lewis Hamilton’s future look like?

lewis hamilton's future

Lewis Hamilton needs to go further to clear up what his future looks like, but there is a strong case to say it will be in Formula 1 beyond 2023. He is still a contender to win his eighth world championship, and only some teams could offer him a car capable of achieving this if he were to move on.

Ferrari were often linked with a potential move for Hamilton. Still, the team has been without a world champion since Kimi Raikkonen in 2007. The reigning constructors’ champions are currently on a five-year run of being beaten by Red Bull and have a big development advantage over Mercedes.

That could be why Mercedes boss Toto Wolff shut down the possibility of Hamilton leaving for Ferrari at the end of this season. With his current team-mate, George Russell, also set for years to come at the Silver Arrows and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz secured, it would require a huge shock on the scale of Nico Rosberg’s retirement for him to leave the team he joined in 2013.

Having thrown the towel in on their initial W14 design and now embarking on a major upgrade project, it will be interesting to see whether Mercedes can close the gap to Red Bull over the coming seasons. If they do, it will be fascinating to see whether a return to form for Hamilton is possible.
